Drawing on data collected through its Current Population Survey, the Bureau of Labor Statistics every month publishes the rate of unemployment by age, gender, race, class of worker, disability status, industry, veteran status, educational attainment, occupation, and marital status. In addition, it publishes the rate for native-born workers along with the rate for foreign-born workers. Much of this information is available in seasonally-adjusted and not seasonally-adjusted form.

These historians generally overlook or ignore the wiser and humbler men who occupied the White House during more tranquil times. They fail to recognize that maintaining or restoring peace and prosperity requires just as much, if not more, wisdom and courage than holding office during time of war or other disaster. It’s not surprising that our recent Anti-Abe commentary has been met with some resistance here in the “Land of Lincoln.”  One of the more comical exchanges involves our Research Director, Dennis Constant, and Ken Lowe of the Herald-Review. A post to his blog, “Roll Call,” read as follows:

“Today’s baffling fax comes courtesy of Dennis Constant, who may or may not be a relative of a Kurt Vonnegut character. Constant is part of the Illinois Taxpayer Education Foundation, which doesn’t have a Web site that I could locate, and so I am unsure if the foundation is concerned with how taxpayers pay for education or if it’s about educating said taxpayers.

CHICAGO—On Thursday, May 20, STAND (Shut This Airport Nightmare Down) held a press conference and demonstration against the state’s use of eminent domain to forcefully take property near Peotone for the proposed South Suburban Airport. The FAA is at least two or three years from approving/disapproving this measure. Regardless, the Illinois Department of Transportation began eminent domain proceedings three months ago.
